The Review Thread

[:1]In order to prevent a rather large influx of threads in the next week or so (or, perhaps, merely the aid them), I start this thread as a collation of reviews and scores, with perhaps a brief comment or two to frame the review. Perhaps a link for good measure.

PCZone magazine [possible web link at later date]: 83%

They found it an interesting addition to the series, considering the action influence and how they implemented it to be well executed. They said the script was sometimes poor, but cited voice-acting and certain elements of collectible audio-diaries to be interesing. Depth is where the game loses out, with little reason to replay the story and missing various RPG and loot conventions that attract people to the game, yet HR-V was a nice addition and the cybernetics argument was unique, but basically boiled down to "robot powa!" or "ew". They consider the co-op taking place in a different ship as opposed to cloning the single-player to be a nice touch and worthy of a play-through.

IGN [http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/898/898264p1.html]: 6.4/10

"As an action game, Space Siege works, but just barely. The combat looks bright and colorful on the surface and there is no shortage of menacing enemies and massive explosions, but the AI doesn't provide any real tactical challenge, the layout of the levels and missions is remarkably linear, and the range of abilities and weapons is too limited. There are far too few choices in Space Siege for it to qualify for the role-playing half of its genre. Players have the chance to pick a number of generic upgrades and limited skills, but the selection still feels a bit incidental to us, at least when compared to other games in this genre. The cybernetic choices are a bit more meaningful but the game's story needs to do more to put those choices up front early on."

Gamepro [http://www.gamepro.com/computer/pc/games/reviews/206521.shtml]:

"Space Siege must have seemed a good idea on the drawing board but the execution definitely leaves something to be desired. It had so much potential; just imagine the loot and skills they could have built into the game! Unfortunately, Gas Powered Games forget all the elements that make the games in this genre so damn fun and addictive. It's really a shame because had they done it right, it would have made the wait for Diablo III that much more bearable. But as it stands, this is without a doubt the worst addition to the Siege series yet."

Add more as they become available, and feel free to comment on individual reviews or general consensus within the thread (if not in other threads, as will no doubt occur).|||"Originally posted by Jollyrigger:

Update: It helps to check the door often as I found a package hidden in one of my bushes outside of my house, So I opened it and found Space Siege in it.

I was up all night playing star siege and ignoring the wifes wishes for me to sleep. All I can say is that someone over at IGN made the decision to rush a review of Space Siege and put it in someones hands who cannot review worth a damn.

I got the feeling as I played Space Siege that the IGN reviewer basically didn't pay attention to the game or has a grudge against Gas Powered Games.

In my own words...You will enjoy Space Siege for what it is and it's a nice Sci-Fi RPG/Action Romp until the likes of Fallout 3 is released. Sure Space Siege should have spent a little more time in the cooker but it's a pretty solid game in it's own right. "

He said it well, now I'm going to sleep after a fun night o' gamin'! :D
